Faculty
The Division of Social Sciences comprises over 50 full-time faculty members from various disciplines of the social sciences, including behavioral science, cultural anthropology, economics, environmental science, political economy, political science, public policy, and sociology, among others. Our faculty hails from 16 different countries and received world-class education in leading universities around the world. They pursue impactful research in the social sciences and provide an interdisciplinary education using innovative teaching methods to the DKU students. Introduction of the Division of Social Sciences
Research
Our faculty contributes to cutting-edge research on both theoretical and applied topics in the social sciences. Our research efforts has led to publications in leading academic journals (such as, American Journal of Sociology, American Political Science Review, Econometrica, PNAS, Nature, Nature Communications, Review of International Political Economy, among others), books published with prestigious publishers (such as, the Cambridge University Press, Duke University Press, Oxford University Press, etc.) and international awards (such as, the Delba Winthrop Prize and the Nils Petter Gleditsch award). We also place great emphasis on undergraduate student research and research collaboration between faculty and students, as evidenced by co-authored publications and numerous summer research scholar projects. Our faculty has contributed to the work of several DKU research centers, including the Center for the Study of Contemporary China, Environmental Research Center, Global Health Research Center and the Humanities Research Center.
Education
The Division of Social Sciences implements DKU’s innovative and interdisciplinary curriculum to provide a comprehensive education in the social sciences. We contribute to the delivery of 10 majors and 16 tracks within them, some in collaboration with other Divisions at DKU. We strive to prepare students to be a successful professional in an ever-changing world by equipping them with effective communication and problem-solving skills, a broad knowledge base that allows for easy adaptability and a comprehensive set of disciplinary skills. The vast majority of our undergraduate students continue their education in master and doctoral programs in world-leading universities.
