David Landry

Assistant Professor of Political Economy

David Landry is an assistant professor of political economy at Duke Kunshan University and an honorary fellow at University College London. He is also an associate faculty member at the Duke University Asia/Pacific Studies Institute and an affiliated researcher at the Johns Hopkins University China Africa Research Initiative. His research explores Chinese extractive sector investments and infrastructure financing in the global south, with a particular focus on where they intersect. He has conducted research in Cameroon, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Ecuador, Madagascar, South Africa, and Vietnam. He has published academic journal articles in Energy Policy, Resources Policy, and Global Policy, Global Studies Quarterly, Oxford Development Studies, and the Journal of Chinese Economic and Business Studies and opinion pieces in The Financial Times, The Washington Post, The Globe and Mail, Foreign Policy, and Foreign Affairs. He is a regular consultant for the World Bank and the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. He holds a BA from McGill University, an MSc from the University of Oxford, and a PhD in international development from Johns Hopkins University (School of Advanced International Studies).
