His research interests lie in the history of political thought, contemporary democratic theory, and comparative political theory. His dissertation explores the ideas of democracy and nation in the political thought of Alexis de Tocqueville and Liang Qichao. His teaching interests include political theory (classical and modern) and questions in social sciences.
He has published on Tocqueville’s political thought, comparative political theory, and Chinese political thought. His publications appear in The Review of Politics, Suite française, and Journal of Social and Political Philosophy,
He earned a B.A. from Renmin University of China and an M.A. in Political Science from Duke University. He completed his Ph.D. in Political Science at Indiana University Bloomington.
