Yu Wang is an Associate Professor of Sociology at Duke Kunshan University. She received her B.S. and M.S. in Sociology from Renmin University of China and earned her M.S. and Ph.D. in Sociology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 2017.
Dr. Wang’s research focuses on social stratification, family demography, and population health, with particular attention to contemporary China. Her work examines how assortative mating, intermarriage, and partner selection shape social mobility and inequality. She also studies the intersections of work, family, gender, and wealth accumulation, exploring how family dynamics contribute to broader patterns of social and economic stratification. A second line of research investigates the social determinants of health, especially child vaccination and preventive healthcare utilization.
Her current projects examine the demographic foundations of assortative mating, the relationships among gender, family, and wealth accumulation in China, and the role of motherhood in shaping child vaccination outcomes. Her research has been supported by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and has appeared in leading journals, including the Journal of Marriage and Family, Research in Social Stratification and Mobility, Social Science Research, and the American Journal of Public Health.
